The Bitcoin Power Law: The Long-Term Growth Corridor — and Why It Gets Only a 6% Weight

CryptoRebateHub Editorial Team

Log both time and price and fifteen years of Bitcoin approximates a straight line — the power-law corridor is the most elegant and most dangerous cycle model. Its relation to the rainbow, the support line record, the triple risk of model dependence, and why the thermometer assigns it the lowest weight.

Among all long-term Bitcoin models, the power law is mathematically the most elegant: log the time axis, log the price axis, and fifteen years of manias and winters compress into one straight line of stable slope, with two parallels fencing a "growth corridor".

What it claims

The power law posits that Bitcoin's value grows with network adoption (roughly, a power function of time) rather than exponentially. That explains two visible facts: each bull's gains shrink, and each bear's drawdown narrows (see the drawdown history). The lower rail's record is striking: the 2015, 2018 and 2022 lows all landed near it — largely the same location as the 200-week moving average, expressed differently.

Triple model risk

First, parameter sensitivity: start the fit in 2010 versus 2011 and the corridor shifts massively. Second, structural assumption: the power law presumes a forever-smooth adoption curve; one sovereign-scale adoption or ban can break the slope. Third, reflexivity: once enough people treat the lower rail as the buy line, the low arrives before the rail — the full single-indicator trap on display. The rainbow chart is the power law's colorful cousin, and its 2022 peg-out was parameter risk taught live.

Why only 6%

Within the Cycle Thermometer's nine-part fusion, the power-law position carries the lowest weight in the system. The reason is plain: it is the most model-dependent of the nine — behind mining cost sits an electricity meter, behind Fear & Greed sits real emotion, behind the power law sits a set of fitted parameters. Informational independence sets the weight; the heavier the assumptions, the smaller the vote. The current corridor position updates daily on the dashboard.

The right expectation

Treat the power law as the cycle's gravity field, not the price's railway track: it says extreme deviations eventually revert to the corridor, never when or by what path. Use it to calibrate long-term expectations; use multi-signal confluence like the bottom checklist for actual decisions.
